Full: Addon Mania

New users to NVDA will sooner or later reach out for add-ons that provide them with additional functionality.
The community website offers meanwhile almost 80 add-ons and finding the right ones can be a daunting challenge.
We, that is three long-term users, present and talk about our favorite ones in a round-robin style.
This selection is by no means exhaustive or comprehensive but rather an introduction and a cross-section into the landscape of add-ons that were helpful to us in the past.

Lightning Talk: We are tied by online and NVDA

In COVID-19 situation, many people had to start using online communication tools for telework and online seminars. Many people started to use Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams, and so on, and I had much effort to teach them how to use them with NVDA. I made detailed explanations for them and I was very glad when they told me that they were using them in various situations.
In my work as a musician, named Zakuro Otowa, most of the live concerts are suspended. We shared music data with remote members, and made music work together remotely. It was a new experience.
Pandemic and lost life made me very sad. In this tough situation, we are firmly connected to each other online, and I am thankful for it. I am also thankful that I can talk to you online here in Japan to worldwide NVDA users and developers.

Full: Qualitative Data Coding in Excel with NVDA

If you ever need to pull themes out of large quantities of written
data, it's best to have a systematic process. As screen-reader users
we need that process to be accessible and efficient with the keyboard
too. Building on my own experience preparing about ten hours of
transcribed interview data for Excel and coding it, this presentation
will walk you through the steps in that process. Using one interview as an example, we'll talk about breaking the data down to a more micro level so you can then label, or code, portions of it in certain ways. We’ll then cover preparing the data for coding, the coding itself, filtering, sorting and reordering data and keeping track of your progress. I will assume a basic understanding of NVDA text navigation and the row/columns layout of Excel sheets.

Full: Learning New Languages and Reading with multiple languages(Follow-up to last year's session)

Getting ready to learn a new language requires extra steps for an NVDA user, but NVDA is the most versatile screen reader when it comes to working with multiple languages. In this talk, I will go over the Windows settings and NVDA add-ons that assist with the process. There will be plenty of time for questions and users who work with multiple languages will be given time to chime in with their expertise. The talk is suited for beginners as well as advanced users who can enrich our community's knowledge.

Some topics covered include: changing to an international keyboard, setting up Windows one-core for different languages, using the SwitchSynth and the Braille Extender add-ons to assist in language learning and how to mark up a document to read properly in another language. We will also cover the quick dictionary add-on for those who need to translate between source and target languages.

Guillem León,

Full: Sound designer at work

I show you how I go about designing new sounds and how NVDA supports
me when interacting with plug-ins and my DAW of choice – Reaper.
I tell you also why I like eSpeak and how its nasal and rough
character helps to cut through a mix, especially now that the volume
can be adapted in steps of 5%.
Another feature I rely upon is the progress bar, for instance if it
serves as gain meter.
